While many customers initially think Soft Landing Rubber Mulch is produced from recycled tires (called whole tires), it is actually made from the retread (buffing) of large commercial tires.
Soft Landing Colored Mulch is a very unique type of colored rubber mulch product. Unlike almost every other type of colored rubber mulch, our mulch is made using a special type of Industrial rubber (not car tire rubber). Not only is this rubber extremely soft but it has the following differences/advantages over car tire rubber.
- No chance of any type of metal in the rubber. 100% metal free.
- No fiber or other material in the rubber.
- Very clean, never been used outside on the road.
- Very soft. Doesn't contain the normal sharp edges that car tire rubber or "chunk" rubber has.
Advantages of Soft Landing Rubber Mulch
NATURALLY SHOCK ABSORBENT
From the moment you walk onto Soft Landing Rubber, you will instantly feel the bounce and cushion that rubber mulch provides. It will not become compact, so it keeps its soft composition and texture for years. Our rubber mulch meets all American Standards Testing Materials requirements. At equal depths, rubber mulch gives more cushion and support than any other substrate product available. Six inches of rubber mulch results in a critical fall height of 11 feet. At the same 6" depth, wood mulch has a critical fall height of 7' and pea gravel has a critical fall height of 5'. Unlike pea gravel (which will freeze into a hard surface at 32° F), rubber mulch will allow your children to use their play system in the winter. Even though residential users are not required to use critical fall heights when determining how much of a substrate to buy, you can easily see how even 3" of rubber mulch will provide a safer surface than other products at the same depth.
CLEANER THAN OTHER SUBSTRATE CHOICES
Rubber mulch does not mildew, rot, mild or decompose like wood products do. When it rains, any dust that has formed on rubber mulch will run off the rubber. Unlike wood mulch and pea gravel that quickly decompose or become slimy, rubber mulch stays relatively clean. At Re-Tek, we feel that rubber mulch allows your children to play without becoming as dirty or messy as they would on wood mulch. A great attribute of rubber mulch is that it drains and dries so quickly, children normally can play 15-30 minutes after it has rained. No more waiting hours or until the next day to use your play system. Rubber mulch will not attract animals or insects like wood mulch.
SAFER THAN OTHER SUBSTRATE CHOICES
Rubber mulch is non-toxic and harmless to the environment. rubber mulch will not cause slivers, cuts or bruises like wood or gravel substrate products can. Parents often don't realize children will commonly throw mulch when they play. Compared to wood mulch or gravel products, rubber mulch is less likely to cause any type of injury it thrown. As with wood mulch or pea gravel, to prevent any risk of choking, We recommend that parents prevent their children form swallowing rubber mulch

EASE OF USE
Rubber mulch is extremely easy to transport and spread. Since rubber mulch is sold in bags, you don't need a special truck to bring it home like bulk mulch products. To help prevent weeds from growing through the mulch, we recommend that a landscape fabric be used under rubber mulch. Spreading the product doesn't require any special tools and can be done by one person.

Though rubber mulch may seem more expensive than other substrate choices, it will not compact, decompose or pulverize, so a one time application will last for years. Wood mulch products decompose yearly, so they need to be replenished 33% to 50% annually.
